Women’s landscape offers a parody of parity.
In the past 12 years, only six schools have won titles, and all but one are contenders this time around, as usual. The bottom line? The parity that's becoming more and more a part of men's basketball hasn't found its way into the women's game. Those six women's teams -- Tennessee, Connecticut, Maryland, Notre Dame, Baylor and Purdue -- are a combined 79-13 this season. Throw out Purdue's 7-8 record and the remaining 72-5 proves that in women's basketball, the rich are definitely getting richer. In the past four seasons, Tennessee, Connecticut and Maryland have each had four top five recruiting classes. Add in a few other schools -- most notably Stanford, Rutgers, North Carolina and Duke -- and what's left is a small club that should dominate women's basketball for years.
Women's hoops, and nothin' but the hoops.
