UConn women show championship traits.
There have been signs of greatness each time the UConn women's basketball team has taken the floor this season. Coach Geno Auriemma and his top-ranked Huskies, of course, continue to state that plenty of areas need tightening. But there is no question that this group has some of same traits that were featured by the national championship teams of the past. Aside from its diverse, prolific offense and its relentless defensive pressure, the trait that has drawn considerable attention is UConn's ability to turn games into routs in a matter of minutes. "It's been a while since we've had the ability to do that," Auriemma said. "There's a tremendous amount of depth and what that does is it keeps the pressure on the whole game. I've always said that if you play great defensively, you're going to have a chance to win every game and then depending on how many shots you make, that's what the point spread's going to be. And we seem to be doing it at both ends right now."
