The development of Sammy Prahalis can be summarized by the phrases that accompanied her journey from playing varsity as a seventh-grader at Commack to her commitment yesterday to one of women's college basketball's elite programs. From "Have you seen this girl?" to "You have to see this girl," to "I have to see this girl again." Pull-up jumpers off the dribble. Shots off the drive that would win letters in a H-O-R-S-E game and whipped passes of the no-look or behind-the-back variety that sometimes caught teammates by surprise. Mostly, they caught defenders by surprise. And as her summer AAU travels took her around the country, a new phrase: Pistol Pete with a ponytail.
