Big 12: Strong women’s venue is key to hosting hoops tournaments.

Just how important is the women's basketball venue to determining the location of the Big 12 Tournament? Consider this: Dallas, the home city of the conference office, the most central big city in the state with the most member schools, a city that has hosted the event three times, will not host the tournament for four years in a row (2007-2010), and possibly beyond. In Oklahoma City, with the tournaments closer together than ever, both drew record attendance: 113,274 for the men and 48,990 for the women. It was no secret that the key to the attendance success of the women's 2007 tournament was the large fan base of the Oklahoma women's basketball program. This year the tournaments will be played in Kansas City, with the men in the new Sprint Center and the women in the recently renovated Municipal Auditorium. The tournament will also be in Kansas City in 2010 and 2011.
Women's hoops, and nothin' but the hoops.
