Basketball champ Swoopes speaks about coming out, success.

"Through everything I've had to go through, in basketball, in life, in my career, that probably was the toughest decision that I have ever made," she told a modest, but attentive audience at UMKC's Pierson Hall Tuesday, Feb. 19. A lot was on the line at that time for the former three-time WNBA Most Valuable Player Award winner when she made the announcement. She had an 8-year-old son from a previous marriage and a mother's reaction to worry about, she had product endorsements from Nike, and she was a role model for a fledgling basketball league. But since she came out, she said she's still the same person, except now she has peace of mind.
