Auriemma took UConn to top with step-by-step approach.

The University of Connecticut announced it had hired a young assistant at the University of Virginia to take over its women's basketball program. The assistant: Geno Auriemma. What the largely unproven 31-year-old Auriemma lacked in head coaching experience, he more than made up in vision, determination and unrelenting focus. And he wasn't waiting for success to find him and his Huskies in Storrs. “You were trying to make sure that every day you were a little bit better than the day before,” Auriemma recalled, “that each year, you were trying to finish a little bit higher than the year before in your league. And one thing that never wavered is you have to get the right kind of players, the right kind of people to be in your program.”
Women's hoops, and nothin' but the hoops.
